Hailing from Lubbock, Texas, Master Winemaker Jon McPherson boasts a rich winemaking heritage. Son of 'Doc' McPherson, a pivotal figure in Texas' wine industry, Jon grew up cultivating grapes at Llano Estacado Winery alongside his mother, Clara, a Food and Nutrition professor at Texas Tech.

 

In 1985, armed with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Food & Technology from Texas Tech University, McPherson ventured to Southern California to leave his mark in sparkling wine. As winemaker at Culbertson Winery (now Thornton Winery) from 1986, Jon's expertise garnered numerous accolades, earning the winery the title of "America's Most Honored Sparkling Wine" producer.

 

In Spring 2003, McPherson joined South Coast Winery, drawn by the allure of working with grapes from the esteemed Wild Horse Peak vineyard. A seasoned judge in national and international wine competitions, Jon is not only a master of his craft but also an avid hiker, cyclist, and a talented writer and artist. With 34 years of marriage to his wife, Anna, and two sons, James and Matthew, Jon's passion for wine and life continues to flourish.
