The McPherson family has been at the forefront of Texas' grape growing and winemaking for over half a century. Dr. Clinton A. “Doc” McPherson, a key figure in the state's wine industry, co-founded Llano Estacado Winery in Lubbock in 1976. Alongside his wife Clara, a professor at Texas Tech, and son Jon, a renowned winemaker, they've left an indelible mark on the industry.

Kim, a graduate of Texas Tech and UC Davis, served as winemaker for Llano Estacado and later Cap*Rock Winery, where he also produced McPherson Cellars wines. His creations have garnered over 500 medals, including Double Golds at prestigious competitions. In 2000, Kim established McPherson Cellars in downtown Lubbock, converting a Coca-Cola bottling plant into a state-of-the-art winery. Recognized as one of the top U.S. winemakers, Kim continues to push boundaries in the Texas wine scene, cementing his family's legacy.
